The central Bank explained the reason for replacing coins in denominations of 5 and 10 rubles with banknotes.
February 7. /MEDIA TALK/.This is due to the fact that citizens are using metal money less and less, preferring paper currency.

Banknotes in denominations of 5 and 10 rubles were put into circulation in 2022 due to a significant drop in demand for metal money in recent years. People prefer to use banknotes, as they take up less space in their wallet and do not stay at home or in piggy banks.

In addition, the new banknotes have a special coating, which prolongs their period of use, and as a result, the production of paper banknotes has become more cost-effective compared to the production of metal coins, the regulator concluded.

At the same time, the tendency to reduce the turnover of cash has been noted for several years, by the end of 2024, their number has decreased to 18 trillion rubles.
